The largest and most prestigious Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) forum in the Caribbean.

 

The Jamaica Computer Society (JCS), a professional organization for Information and Communication Technologists (ICT), hosted BIZTECH FORUM 2008, "Telecommunications: Backbone to National Development" at The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, Rose Hall, Jamaica October 23-26.


SMS Communications was one of the many ICT companies that displayed its products and services. At the awards Banquet SMS Communications was the winner of the "BEST EXHIBIT AWARD"

 

   The criteria for this award are as follows:
1) Knowledge of products and services
2) Relevance of display to Showcase theme
3) Availability of literature/hand-outs
4) Use of space
5) Visual impact

So watch for more companies and brands and the retail industry seeking to build their own mobile commmunities, wanting to speak to their customers directly, instantly and more cost effectively. Since currently, there is only one mobile marketing platform provider in Jamaica, SMS Communications (with the Ucantel Brand) expect additional providers this year as Indian and American companies have been sniffing the marketplace for opportunity to enter.  In addition to the lucrative $500,000 cash prize received for winning the Digicel Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Stephen Spence, head of SMS Communications Limited, will gain valuable expertise on a two-day sojourn with Denis O'Brien, chairman of the telecommunications giant.

O'Brien made the announcement during his keynote address at the Young Entrepreneurs Awards Gala, held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on Thursday. Spence was the winner of the Jamaica Employers' Federation (JEF) and Young Entrepreneurs' Association's (YEA) Young Entrepreneurs' Challenge - a competition that seeks to reward young Jamaicans who own businesses.
